Lighting up the West

In 2025 I was selected to be a resident artist working with the communities of Condobolin and Lake Cargelligo by the Outback Theatre for Young People.

Through the Outback Outreach program, I've been working wth local young people in their spaces to learn the craft of video projection mapping — from capturing their local environment with video and editing to create custom content to beaming their artwork onto structures like Condobolin's water tower and the Lake Cargelligo Memorial Hall. It is a hands-on introduction to digital and screen-based art that gives kids in remote communities the same creative tools and professional mentorship you'd find in a capital city, just projected onto their own backyard.

This is about more than technique. It is about facilitating these young people to create and share their stories and their imagination in light, for their town and community. Every workshop builds toward a public installation — creating nights where the community gathers to watch what their kids created. I am honoured to bring professional arts practice to remote NSW and helping young people realise their ideas.

This is an ongoing residency with two visits to each community so far and a commitment to continue with visits in 2027 and in to the future.
